Julie Garcia

"Don't go to a beer fest and then think you can still run a half marathon the next day..."

Julie ran her first marathon in 2004. She had originally joined a running group in Atlanta to meet people and help her through a difficult time in her life. She ran Chicago that year and was hooked on the world of marathoning. She helped her prior running group with organizing socials and helped out as an assistant coach. In the spring of 2006, she became one of their head coaches. Half way through the training season, she moved to the Valley. She started coaching for 1st Marathon in August of 2006.

Here are a few things Julie has learned about running:

  • Don't go to a beer fest and then think you can still run a half marathon the next day without suffering the consequences of the beer fest the day previously.
  • She's just as much of a klutz out running as she is with everything else. Ask her to show you her scars from falling while out on training runs.
  • She loves how running brings folks together from all walks of life; training draws everyone together! They all experience the highs and the lows just the same. And come race day, not only will you have Julie rooting for you, but all the new found friends you made while training for a marathon.
